Daryl and Tericka’s vintage engagement session in downtown Portsmouth, VA was truly beautiful and creative! They are having a vintage styled wedding so they wanted to incorporate a vintage feel into their engagement session. After brainstorming for a week or two, we settled on the location of the old Commodore Theatre in Portsmouth, Virginia. I can’t believe I have never been or even heard of the Commodore Theatre, but it was build in 1945 and has a wonderful Art Deco feel. It has a lot of vintage movie theater items like an old popcorn maker and video reel! Since visiting the theater, I really want to go and see a movie there just for the experience!
Daryl and Tericka came to their session ready to rock it! I loved their outfits, especially the pops of red! I loved watching how they interacted with one another playfully and lovingly! I must say, Daryl really treats Tericka like a QUEEN!! What made this session even more unique was their request to have the images edited in a certain way to give it a vintage feel. Now, this is not our normal editing style so we had no clue as to how to give the images a vintage look, nevertheless, we said “ABSOLUTELY” and immediately went to experimenting in Lightroom (our editing software!).
After trying a few styles, we settled on this one and I love how the images turned out! I am so glad they sweetly challenged us in that way! I know that their wedding at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art will be just as creative as their engagement session and, for that, I simply can’t wait for it!
Here are some of our favorites images from their vintage style engagement session in Downtown Portsmouth. Enjoy!
